We’ve tested the best kettlebells to row, twist, swing and squat your way to full-body functional fitness at home in 2024.

If you’re looking to get fit and build full-body strength at home, the versatile, space-saving kettlebell should be high on your kit list. It’s a relatively cheap piece of gear that’s good for everything from smashing leg day and building upper-body strength to heart-pumping HIIT sessions and even recovery and mobility work.

But not all kettlebells are created equal. That’s why we’ve swung into action, to bring you our tried and tested picks of the best kettlebells to buy in 2024.

Why you can trust Men’s Fitness

We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Our team of reviewers includes experienced product testers, PTs, nutritionists and fitness writers – as well as the core MF team – who know exactly what sets the best products apart from the rest. Find out more about how we test.

These are the best kettlebells for home workouts

For us the Wolverson Competition Kettlebell is the ideal training tool. The fact that it’s competition standard means you don’t have to cope with larger bells as you work your way up the weight range. Quality is excellent and a lifetime guarantee gives you peace of mind once you’ve splashed the cash – which will be substantial if you’ve bought the entire set.

Other kettlebell recommendations

Best for gripA nicely balanced feel and confidence-inspiring rubber-coated handles make the TRX Rubber Coated Kettlebell a joy to throw around. There are eight weights up to 62lb / 28kg, with color-coded handles for easy identification.
Best for tight budgetsDespite really just being lumps of metal, kettlebells can be pretty pricey – particularly if you’re building up a set. Not the Mirafit Soft-Touch Cast-Iron Kettlebell range, which starts from under $25 and goes up to an impressive 70.5lb / 32kg.
Best adjustable kettlebellWe’re big fans of the Primal Personal Series Adjustable Kettlebell‘s ergonomic design, with five weights inside a small but robust unit. The range is useful and weight changing is quick and intuitive too.

1. Wolverson Competition Kettlebell

Wolverson Competition KettlebellMen's Fitness editor's choice badge

Men’s Fitness verdict

Impressive construction, good balance, textured grips and roomy handles combine to make the Wolverson Competition Kettlebells the best that we’ve tested. They’re pricey, but not prohibitively so.
Pros
  • Good weight control
  • Excellent grip and handling
  • Plenty of room for two-handed drills
Cons
  • You’ll want the whole set
Weight range8.8lb to 70.5lb / 4kg to 32kg
Number of weights11
FeaturesConsistent size across the range; calibrated for competition; lifetime casting warranty

Competition kettlebells are ideal if you want a consistent size and feel across a range of weights and Wolverson’s high-end offerings swing and handle beautifully. We find their retro boxing-gym styling to be instantly appealing, too.

We found their weight distribution to be even thanks to the solid one-piece casting. Plus, the wide, grippy handles have a subtle texture that’s easy on the hands. We also found there to be plenty of room here for two-handed drills, too. There is also a wide weight range with a useful top end of 70.5lb / 32kg.

2. TRX Rubber-Coated Kettlebell

TRX Rubber Coated Kettlebell

Men’s Fitness verdict

While not quite on a par with the Wolverson bells, TRX’s rubber-coated versions have a robust grip that’ll help you sling them around with confidence. The weight range is comprehensive too.
Pros
  • Comfortable non-slip textured grip
  • Durable rubber coating
  • Good weight range
Cons
  • Fairly expensive
Weight range8.8lb to 88.2lb / 4kg to 28kg
Number of weights8
FeaturesRubber-coated bell; powder-coated handle; color-coded weight rings

With rubber-coated bells and powder-coated handles, TRX’s kettlebells are as rugged as its popular suspension training systems. Featuring eight bells from 8.8lb / 4kg up to 88.2lb / 28kg, the range has enough options for all but the most powerful of lifters.

Each kettlebell is color-coded, too, making weights easier to identify when you’re building up a collection. The size of the handles changes as you move up the weight range with bigger windows and larger diameters. We were impressed with the nicely balanced feel and reliable grip, which makes them easy to use for the likes of swings, presses, squats, snatches and other drills.

3. Mirafit Soft-Touch Cast-Iron Kettlebells

Product shot of orange Mirafit kettlebell

Men’s Fitness verdict

These soft-touch kettlebells are refreshingly affordable but that doesn’t mean they’ve compromised on quality. The powder coating and weld-free construction means they’ll last for ages too.
Pros
  • Flat, wobble-free base
  • Reliable soft grip
  • Robust, weld-free construction
Cons
  • Not as protective as rubber coated
Weight range13.2lb to 70.5lb / 6kg to 32kg
Number of weights9
FeaturesWeld-free cast-iron construction; full set available with storage rack

Mirafit’s powder-coated cast iron bells are well worth considering if you’re looking to build a collection on a budget. Starting at under $25, the range is one of the most expansive too, with nine kettlebells weighing between 13.2lb / 6kg and a whopping 70.5lb / 32kg. Plus, you can also buy them in a set for added savings.

Underneath that protective coating, there’s a durable single cast, weld-free cast-iron bell. The handle is powder-coated too, which provided us with a smooth and soft grip. Despite their modest price, we found the Mirafit kettlebells to be well balanced, comfortable to hold and suitable for all major kettlebell drills.

4. DMoose Kettlebells

Set of DMoose Kettlebells lined up

Men’s Fitness verdict

Ranging from 9lb to 70lb, these feature durable cast iron construction, wide handles and a gravity-cast design. Easy to clean, they suit beginners to advanced athletes. A very solid choice.
Pros
  • Rust-free and easy to keep clean
  • Can be used by beginners and advanced trainees alike
  • Gravity-cast design for better weight distribution
Cons
  • Numbers are not colored
  • No storage shelves or rack included
Weight range9lb to 70lb / 4kg to 32kg
Number of weights10
FeaturesGravity-cast build; color-coded weights; rust-free; wide handles

The DMoose Kettlebell set boasts durable gravity-cast iron construction and convenient features. Each kettlebell, arriving promptly and well-packaged, boasts a powder-coated finish with engraved weight markings in pounds and kilograms. The wide handles cater to various hand sizes, offering a comfortable grip even during intense workouts. Their uniform shape aids in consistent performance across exercises like swings and goblet squats.

I tested these kettlebells across a range of workouts, and they proved resilient and easy to maintain, showcasing no signs of wear even after regular use. With options for all strength levels, DMoose Kettlebells excel in versatility and quality, making them a worthwhile investment for any fitness enthusiast. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned athlete, this set provides the tools to enhance your training regime, offering durability and performance that last.

5. Reax Fluikettle

Product shot of Reax Kettle

Men’s Fitness verdict

The Fluikettle is a novel take on the kettlebell that can not only stand any impact but creates an unpredictable load to work your muscles in different ways. It takes some getting used to, though.
Pros
  • Shock and impact absorbing
  • Good for outdoor use
  • Comfortable against the skin
Cons
  • Not the most comfortable grip
  • Shifting weight may take some getting used to
Weight range4.4lb to 44lb / 2kg to 20kg
Number of weights9
FeaturesSoft Shock elastic exterior; steel ball and fluid interior

Reax is shaking up the kettlebell world with its unique Fluikettle. With a malleable plastic exterior and moving steel-ball and fluid interior, it adds instability and unpredictability to your workouts. That might not sound ideal, but in practice this constantly shifting weight makes kettlebell sessions more challenging and therefore more productive.

The nine-bell range tops out at 44lb / 20kg, which might be limiting for some, but the Fluikettle’s ability to enhance strength workouts more than makes up for that. We found that the soft, flexible outer rested comfortably against the skin and soaked up impacts against floors and limbs alike.

6. Primal Personal Series Adjustable Kettlebell

An adjustable kettlebell sitting on a weight plate

Men’s Fitness verdict

Hats off to Primal for creating an adjustable kettlebell that looks and feels like its traditional counterparts. At this price, it’s one of the most robust and reliable options we’ve tested.
Pros
  • 10lb – 40lb / 4.5kg – 18kg in a small package
  • Secure locking mechanism
  • Ergonomic design
Cons
  • Loses kettlebell feel at lower weights
  • Weight selection dial can be annoying
  • Avid kettlebell fans may struggle with the design
Weight range10lb to 40lb / 4.5kg to 18kg
Number of weights5
FeaturesSecure locking mechanism; ergonomic design; 1 year home warranty

Primal’s adjustable kettlebell offers five weights in a well designed package. The design has a rotating dial at the top to select the weights beneath it. The lower the weight you select, the fewer plates the Primal Personal Series Adjustable Kettlebell picks up.

Unlike some other rivals, such as the Bowflex SelectTech 840 Kettlebell, there’s no tray, so you don’t have to cart around an extra piece of plastic when you want to move the kettlebell. Simply select the max weight and away you go. The quality of Primal kit tends to be excellent and it’s no different here. At this price, we’d say it’s one of the most robust and reliable adjustable kettlebells we’ve tested. The unit is made from a number of materials, including aluminum, steel, polypropylene, nylon and ABS, but they all feel tough and able to withstand a bashing.

There’s plenty of room between the handle and the bell, while well-defined horns make it easy to grip in numerous ways. We also appreciated the groove that runs down each flank, making it far more comfortable to perform snatches and overhead pressing movements, seeing as there’s somewhere comfortable to rest the wrist. The handle features a textured nylon covering, so grip is excellent.

7. JaxJox KettlebellConnect 2.0

Product shot of Jaxjox Kettlebell Connect 2.0

Men’s Fitness verdict

With on-demand content, coaching and smart tracking, JaxJox is revolutionising kettlebell workouts. These smarts don’t come cheap though.
Pros
  • Decent weight range
  • Counts reps, sets and weight
Cons
  • Bulky with a big footprint
  • Hardware and premium app are pricey
Weight range12.1lb to 41.8lb / 5.5kg to 19kg
Number of weights6
FeaturesJaxJox app integration; motion sensors track reps, sets, weight, power,
average volume and time; fast-charging USB-C connection

If you like to track your drills or prefer more immersive workouts, you might want to check out the JaxJox KettlebellConnect 2.0. Likewise if you don’t have the floor space for a collection of kettlebells. That’s because the JaxJox is a smart adjustable kettlebell that can internally select six weights between 12.1lb / 5.5kg and 41.8lb / 19kg, and packs motion sensors that track reps, sets and power.

You can also follow complete drill-by-drill workouts on your smartphone, or join on-demand coach-led classes, tracking stats as you go. However, you’ll have to pay a Peloton-style premium to access these features. Although you need power for the selection and smart training features, in our experience you can get around 14 hours of training time on a single charge.

How we tested the best kettlebells

Our testers Kieran Alger, Leon Poultney and Roger Lockridge are experienced product reviewers of all manner of fitness kit. They tested different types of kettlebell at various weights and through a range of exercises at high rep ranges to see how they handle. They marked each one for grip, comfort (and weight range for the adjustable options) and gave an overall score that takes build quality, performance and price into consideration.

Benefits of using a kettlebell

When it comes to home workouts, the benefits of kettlebells are undeniable. They’re versatile, space-efficient and great for full-body fitness.

They’re ideal for swings, cleans and snatches – where they’re more comfortable to use than dumbbells and less technical than barbells – making kettlebells excellent for building power.

Because you’ll often use them unilaterally, in ways that involve holding them at odd angles to your body, they’re also great for teaching your body to ‘resist’ force, building the anti-rotational strength that experts agree is key to long-term health. Finally, because they’re suited to very high reps, we think kettlebells are great for torching through calories and ultimately burning body fat.

If that sounds like something you want to invest in, there are a few things to consider when you’re looking at the different types of kettlebells to buy.

What to look for in the best kettlebells

The handle is critical: it should be wide enough to comfortably grip with two hands, with a smooth, comfortable texture that won’t irritate your hands after dozens of reps – or when you do Turkish get-ups or other dynamic drills.

Ideally, you’ll also want a kettlebell that sits comfortably against your forearm as you learn how to do a kettlebell swing or snatch – big and round is the key, but we also recommend looking for a flat bottom so it stands easily.

Kettlebells can be made of cast iron, steel or even plastic. Cast iron kettlebells are the most durable and provide the best grip. Steel kettlebells are often coated in vinyl or rubber, which can help protect floors and reduce noise. Plastic kettlebells tend to be cheaper, but can also be the least durable. There are also softer water or sand-filled options, like the Reax Fluikettle.

Competition-style kettlebells are popular. They’re all the same size, regardless of the weight. That makes it easier to maintain consistency as you progress up the weights. They also tend to have smaller handles to avoid sliding, and they’re a joy to swing.

Choosing the kettlebell weight

When it comes to choosing weights, it’s important to consider your fitness level and goals. If you’re a beginner, start with a lighter weight, around 18-26lb / 8-12kg. If you’re more advanced, you may want to go heavier – up to 70lb / 32kg (mainly for lower-body movements) or more.

As an all-round option, 35lb / 16kg is probably the best bet. You might find it a bit light when you get used to swings and squats, but it’ll also let you do a load of pressing variations and high-rep snatches, as well as the best kettlebell exercises for fat loss.

If you’re getting a second bell, consider going slightly heavier – say 44lb / 20kg or 52lb / 24kg. The latter is heavy enough for almost any move you’ll want to do. Finally, you might want to invest in one smaller weight for mobility drills.

The other option is an adjustable kettlebell – like the JaxJox KettlebellConnect 2.0 or the Bowflex Selecttech 840 – which offers multiple weights in a convenient, compact format.

These are the best adjustable dumbbells for strength training at home this year

Transform your home workouts with the best adjustable dumbbells on the market right now.

A pair of the best adjustable dumbbells can help you in more ways than one this year. If you’re looking to set up a small gym at home, you’ll need a selection of dumbbells that cover a useful range and enable you to do a large number of exercises.

However, trying to cover this range with individual weights will not only take up a significant amount of floorspace, but it’ll burn a hole in your wallet too.

So investing in a set of adjustable dumbbells makes a lot of sense if you want a relatively small and inexpensive set-up. The initial outlay may seem expensive, but as long as you choose the right set, it should cover all your lifting needs.

What are the best adjustable dumbbells?

The Nuobell Adjustable Dumbbells are the best we tested. A seamless adjustment mechanism, slick aesthetic and rattle-free design makes Nuobell the standout adjustable dumbbell set. You have the option to buy a stand on which to store the weights, too, which – if you have the room – means you can pick them up and set them down from waist height.

Other adjustable dumbbell recommendations

Best adjustable dumbbell weight rangeThe DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell & Barbell (buy now) offers the biggest weight range of any adjustable dumbbells we tested. Topping out at 90lb (40kg), that’s more than enough weight for most home workout needs. Of course, there’s also the added benefit of being able to switch from dumbbell to barbell exercises – though doing so is a bit fiddly.
Best-value adjustable dumbbellsAt $399 for a pair, the NordicTrack Select-A-Weight Dumbbells (buy now) represent an excellent entry into the weights world from a brand more commonly associated with cardio equipment. The 55lb (25kg) top weight of each dumbbell is decent enough, too.
Best adjustable dumbbells for small spacesAt 42cm long per dumbbell, the MuscleSquad 5kg – 32.5kg Quick Select Adjustable Dumbbell (buy now) offers the most compact unit we tested. The max weight of 32.5kg is the second heaviest on test, too, so this is a very good option if space is at a premium but you still want to lift heavy.
Best adjustable dumbbell workout appFar and away the best companion workout app belongs to the JAXJOX DumbbellConnect (buy now). The weights carry a maximum of 22.6kg, which will likely leave more experienced gym-goers wanting more, but the JAXJOX app offers a wealth of follow-along workout options, as well as some useful metrics based on your training.

The best adjustable dumbbells you can buy today

1. Nuobell Adjustable Dumbbells

Nuobell adjustable dumbbellsMen's Fitness editor's choice badge

Men’s Fitness verdict

With a seamless adjustment mechanism and stylish design, Nuobell’s Adjustable Dumbbells are easy on the eye as well as the hands. A handsome addition to any home gym and the best we tested.
Pros
  • Wide weight range
  • Slick aesthetic
  • Smooth adjustments
  • Option to add a hip-high stand
Cons
  • Handles could be a bit grippier
Weight range4.4-70.5lb (2-32kg)
Increments16
Dimensions (L x W x H)48.5 x 18 x 18.5cm
Sold as a pair or individuallyPair

There’s no other way to say it: the Nuobell is simply the best adjustable dumbbell system we’ve had the pleasure of testing.

A seamless twist of the handles allow you to cycle between the different weights in an instant, and there’s no rattling around of weight plates when you’re lifting. The handles have a decent amount of grip (though if there’s one small gripe it’s that it could be slightly better during high-intensity exercises).

All in all, this is a stylish and minimalist set of weights that marries good looks with unparalleled practicality.

2. Primal Strength Personal Series Adjustable Dumbbell Pair

Primal Strength Personal Series Adjustable Dumbbell

Men’s Fitness verdict

This beastly set of bells is straightforward to set up and offers a massive 21 different weights to work with. They are on the more expensive side, but it’s worth remembering these come as a pair.
Pros
  • Best weight range we tested
  • Wide, comfortable grip
  • Easy to adjust
Cons
  • Take up a fair amount of space
Weight range11-75lb (5-34kg)
Increments21
Dimensions (L x W x H)50.4 x 18.2 x 17.8cm
Sold as a pair or individuallyPair

A high-quality, versatile set of dumbbells for any home gym user – with a best-in-test 34kg max weight per dumbbell. Over a nearly 30kg range, you get a substantial 21 different weights to work with. That should satisfy even the most experienced weight trainer.

They’re longer than most adjustable dumbbells, but the slider selection system is a breeze to use and the handles stay comfortable throughout long workouts.

3. NordicTrack Select-A-Weight Dumbbells

NordicTrack Select-A-Weight dumbbells

Men’s Fitness verdict

A really good-value set of adjustable weights, with max loads of 55lb (25kg) per dumbbell. They’re easy to adjust, too, but there could be more companion app content.
Pros
  • Excellent value
  • Easy operation
  • Neat, compact design
Cons
  • 55lb per bar won’t be enough weight for some
  • Not much iFit companion content
Weight range10-55lb (4.5-25kg)
Increments15
Dimensions (L x W x H)49.2 x 28.9 x 21.5cm
Sold as a pair or individuallyPair

For a brand better known for its cardio equipment, NordicTrack has made an impressive step into the world of weights with its Select-A-Weight Dumbbells. We found them to be a breeze to use and pleasantly compact – 49.2cm long is the second smallest unit in this list.

The content available on the partner iFit app could be better, and the 55lb max weight won’t be enough for some, but ultimately $399 for a pair of high-quality adjustable dumbbells is very good value.

4. MuscleSquad 5kg – 32.5kg Quick Select Adjustable Dumbbell

musclesquad 5kg - 32.5kg adjustable dumbbell

Men’s Fitness verdict

The most space-efficient adjustable dumbbell on test, with an impressive 32.5kg max weight to boot. A dream to use, but a pair will set you back £550.
Pros
  • Wide resistance range
  • Small footprint for easy storage
Cons
  • Relatively expensive
Weight range11-71.5lb (5-32.5kg)
Increments12
Dimensions (L x W x H)42 x 20 x 21cm
Sold as a pair or individuallyBoth options available

Its handle is soft and textured for a comfortable grip, and the gripping mechanism works smoothly and securely. At 42cm long per adjustable dumbbell, these are the most compact weights we tested, so if space is at a premium these will be your best option.

5. BowFlex SelectTech 552i Dumbbells

Bowflex SelectTech 552i Dumbbells

Men’s Fitness verdict

BowFlex has established itself as a big name in the adjustable dumbbell space, and the 552i’s show why: with quick adjustments and ergonomic design. Not the most durable construction, however.
Pros
  • Easy adjustments
  • Relatively affordable
Cons
  • Quite bulky
  • Heavy use of plastic means they don’t feel the most durable (don’t drop them!)
Weight range4.4-52.5lb (2-24kg)
Increments15
Dimensions (L x W x H)43 x 21.2 x 22.8cm
Sold as a pair or individuallyBoth options available

BowFlex’s rubber and steel grip is well designed for more explosive exercises and fast-paced HIIT-style workouts. You can move from 4.4lb to 52.5lb with the simple twist of a dial, and there’s a tray to store the weights and drop them back when you need to add or lose some plates.

BowFlex also offers on-demand strength classes via its JRNY app, so you can put the dumbbells to work with prescribed workouts.

The construction is heavy on the plastic, though, so if you like to chuck your weights around (though generally not advisable for any adjustable dumbbell), you’ll want something a bit more robust.

6. JAXJOX DumbbellConnect

jaxjox dumbbell connect

Men’s Fitness verdict

These are some high-tech dumbbells, but they also do the basics well. Set-up is quick and easy, thanks to clear instructions, then simply choose your weight digitally and start lifting.
Pros
  • Quick and easy to change weight
  • Smart features with app connectivity
  • Good workout variety on the JAXJOX app
Cons
  • Dumbbells have to be charged before use
  • Dock’s screen can be difficult to see clearly

Increments8
Dimensions (L x W x H)49.5 x 19.1 x 17.8cm
Sold as a pair or individuallyPair

With a digital docking station, the JAXJOX DumbbellConnect is an impressive bit of kit, utilising a USB-powered digital dock for weight selection and a companion app to suggest exercises and track progress. Just sync the app for real-time data such as reps, weight, sets, time, average power and total volume.

These dumbbells do the basics well, too – including a robust design, comfortable grooved handles and secure locking plates.

Just remember to keep the dock charged, or you won’t be able to change weights.

7. DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell/Barbell

DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell/Barbell

Men’s Fitness verdict

Topping out at a large 90lb (40.8kg), this 2-in-1 from DMoose packs the heaviest weight we tested. You only get one dumbbell, however (which can be turned into the barbell), which isn’t ideal.
Pros
  • Big weight range
  • One hand weight adjustment with handle
  • Space-saving design
  • Stand included
Cons
  • Longer dumbbell than traditional versions
  • Single dumbbell only
Weight range4-90lb (2-40.8kg)
Increments16
Dimensions (dumbbell)46.5 x 24.9 x 23.1cm
Dimensions (barbell)117.1 x 24.9 x 23.1cm

DMoose’s reputation for quality shines through in this innovative adjustable dumbbell and barbell combo. Featuring 16 weights across a 4-90lb / 2-40kg range, it’s suitable for beginners and more experienced users looking to kit out their home gyms.

90lb is a usefully heavy weight for moves like goblet squats and rows, which tend to require bigger loads. And of course the option to change to a barbell mid-workout comes in handy, but the major downside is that you only get one dumbbell. That will inevitably limit your workout options.

Adjustable dumbbells vs fixed dumbbells

Once you’ve chosen your adjustable dumbbells, just select your weight and you’re good to go. To begin with, you can use them as you would a standard set of dumbbells. But by using their entire range you can quickly tap into a wealth of exercises in one workout.

It goes without saying that adjustable dumbbells offer more flexibility and versatility than fixed dumbbells. There are various types of adjustable dumbbells available, including the classic plate dumbbells that use a removable collar to add and take off weights.

These can be time consuming to adjust, though, which can interrupt your workout. So we’ve concentrated on the best proper adjustable dumbbells – ones that allow you to change weights on the fly.

This lets you get on with the serious business of nailing your reps and getting the right amount of rest between sets and exercises. It also allows you to decrease or increase the resistance in manageable increments to finesse your workout.

What makes a good adjustable dumbbell?

Before choosing adjustable dumbbells, consider the kind of best dumbbell exercises you intend to use them for. Are you going for heavy-weight strength gains, or looking to get leaner with some high-rep conditioning?

If you’re just starting out with full-body dumbbell workouts, you’ll probably be tempted to go lighter. Bear in mind that you will get stronger and be able to lift heavier weights as you progress, though. So before long a maximum weight of 20kg, say, may not be enough to continue seeing improvements.

Look for adjustable dumbbells with a simple, intuitive selection mechanism, and a wide weight range to give room for progression. Ideally you want a large number of adjustments between the highest and lowest weights, giving you a wide range of options and smaller jumps between weights.

Handle design plays a big part in comfort so look for adjustable dumbbells with wide handles with soft, knurled or patterned grips. The dumbbell’s footprint is worth considering if storage is an issue, and waist-level stands can make changing weights more comfortable too.

The DMoose Kettlebells 9-70lb set are solidly built, feel great in the hand and offer something for every level of kettlebell user.

The best kettlebells have become very popular workout tools because of how versatile they are. They can be used for total-body movements as well as isolation exercises. Kettlebell workouts can help you burn calories and train multiple muscle groups in a short period of time, and you can use heavier weights to help increase power and strength that transfers to other exercises.

The DMoose Kettlebells come in ten different sizes, ranging from 9lb up to its heaviest version at 70lb, and the prices range from $26 to $200. They all have their own color to identify the weight, and are covered with a powder-coat finish to help support your grip. The shape of the handle and horns of the bell allow the user to grip it in whichever way they prefer for the chosen exercise.

This was the first full set of kettlebells I’ve owned, but I’ve used a variety of them over my two decades of training. DMoose sent me each of the ten kettlebells they have available. It took two days for them to arrive once they were shipped. Each kettlebell came in their own box with extra wrapping and styrofoam to provide protection during shipping. The box was labeled to show what weight came in the box. I was able to simply pull them right out of the box and get to work.

These iron kettlebells are solid pieces made of a gravity cast with a powder coat finish, and they have the numbers engraved on the sides in both pounds and kilograms. The DMoose logo is on the other side. They all come in the same color, but have their own color stripe on each horn (side of the handle) to help identify the weights.

They are durable weights as well. You wouldn’t need to worry if they were to slip out of your hand. The weights and logos are the same color as the kettlebell itself, but are engraved so can still be seen.

Features of the DMoose Kettlebells

A novice trainee may think that if they have seen one kettlebell, then they have seen them all. However, kettlebells are like weight plates or dumbbells. They each have their own features that make them stand out. Consider the training environment you have access to as well as how you plan on using them when choosing the right kind for you. That said, the DMoose Kettlebells will be suitable for many trainees.

Cast iron

These kettlebells are made of cast iron, which makes them suitable for indoor and outdoor workouts. They are also easier to take care of. Maintaining the look and condition of these kettlebells will be as easy as a basic washcloth and cleaner or water, depending on what you are cleaning off of it. The powder coat will also help protect against rust.

Wide handles for easier grip

I particularly appreciated the wider handles, which will suit athletes with larger hands, and they will be more comfortable for beginners to use. The handles are also slightly thicker than other kettlebells, which should be more suitable for stronger lifters that want to focus on grip.

Superior shape

The shape of the bell (weight) allows the user to hold it by that side as well if that is preferred for a certain exercise such as goblet squats. They are gravity-cast for uniformity. So, even though each weight is a different size, they will have similar shape. This will also be beneficial if you are performing movements like swings or pullovers, because the weight will be even throughout the range of motion.

How they perform

I took the weights to my home gym and started putting each of them through their paces. These weights didn’t feel awkward in my hands, and I used them for a wide variety of exercises such as swings, goblet squats, pullovers on a bench, and even triceps extensions. The weights were up to the challenge.

While they shouldn’t be slammed down for obvious reasons, I did drop one from arms’ length onto the rubber matted floor of my home gym and there was no damage to the kettlebell or the floor. You don’t have to be gentle with these weights. Cleaning them was easy as well. A simple damp cloth was all I needed to remove the chalk and sweat.

This was my first experience with these kettlebells, and this is DMoose’s first version of these weights. Even two months after I first received them, they are still in great shape and show no signs of damage after regular use. They have been a part of my warm-up routines and full-body kettlebell workouts. I expected them to be durable and easy to use, and they were.

Some users might want to have access to all ten weights, but others may just want to choose a few to provide the support they need for their workouts.

I would suggest choosing one light, one moderate and one heavy weight based on your strength levels. That way, you can train for endurance, power, or hypertrophy or mix them up for high-intensity interval training. This sample workout can help you break these kettlebells in pretty well.

Are DMoose Kettlebells worth buying?

This is a terrific set of weights to use for any kind of training. High-quality kettlebells can be easy for the beginner to use and durable enough to last until that same trainee becomes an advanced athlete. Buying a set like this can help you perform drop sets or supersets with different exercises quickly.

Whether you’re looking to learn how to use them or need to take your training sessions to the next level, these weights will work. This set from DMoose is as high-quality as you can find.

How we test the best kettlebells

For Roger’s testing, he received the entire range of DMoose kettlebells. He tested them in his home gym, putting them through their paces with everything from swings to squats. Roger took particular note of the grip comfort and how they felt for full-body workouts.

Don’t let a lack grip hold you back from lifting the weights you’re capable of. With the best lifting straps you’ll have all the support you need.

The best lifting straps can be a highly effective accessory for strength training. Lifting straps are wrapped around the wrist, with the other end wrapped around a barbell, handle of a dumbbell or a machine handle. They allow you to train larger muscle groups with heavier weights because you won’t be limited by a potential lack of grip strength. They won’t take up much space in your gym bag, either.

If you want to work on your grip strength and train muscles effectively, use your natural grip for warm-up sets. Save the straps for the heaviest weight that you feel may require straps for support. Straps should only be used when your grip is hampering your ability to progress in a certain lift – usually barbell exercises like deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts and bent-over rows.

A good lifting strap will be comfortable, durable and simple to use. The six straps on this list meet all those criteria. If you try any of these straps for yourself, you can be confident they’ll serve your training needs for a long time to come.

Why you can trust Men’s Fitness

At Men’s Fitness we pride ourselves on delivering information that serves a singular purpose: to improve some aspect of your health, fitness or wellbeing. For over 16 years, we’ve been publishing authoritative health and fitness content – written by our expert editors and contributors. Each of our workouts has been created and tested by either a highly experienced editor or expert contributor.

These are the best lifting straps

The DMoose lifting straps emerged as our top choice, thanks to their plush padding and solid breathability. We also found their extra length to be particularly useful in the battle for more grip.

Other recommendations

Best for long-term ownership

Schiek 1000 LLS Leather Lifting Straps are, as you can guess, made of leather. That’s quite rare for a lifting strap, and means that they’ll be both durable and easier to clean over time. That longevity does come at a cost though.

Best on a budget

Gymreaper lifting straps punch above their weight where price is concerned. Albeit not quite as good as the top purchases on this list, these will still do the job well if you’re working with a stricter budget.

Best for people who prefer gloves

JerkFit Death Grips are technically lifting gloves rather than lifting straps, so if you prefer the fit of a glove, these are a grip device that would be well worth considering.

1. DMoose Lifting Straps

DMoose lifting straps

Men’s Fitness verdict

DMoose gets all the basics right: its straps are nice and long, robust and excellent value. As long as you don’t have very small hands, these would make an ideal pair of straps for new lifters.
Pros
  • Good length at 2ft / 61cm
  • Several colors to choose from
  • Cross-stitched for reinforcement
  • Excellent value
Cons
  • May be too thick for lifter with small hands
  • Extra care needed when cleaning
Material:100% cotton
Length:24in / 61cm
Padding:4mm
Colors:9 colors available

At 24in / 61cm, DMoose makes some of the longest straps around. They have a plush 4mm of padding too, for when you need that extra comfort on big lifts. Made from breathable cotton, they won’t get slick when you sweat, either. For those that like to make a statement, these straps come in nine color variations – including our favorite, the stars and stripes.

2. No Conformity Lifting Straps

No Conformity Lifting Straps

Men’s Fitness verdict

If comfort and reliability are priorities when lifting heavy (and why wouldn’t they be?), these reinforced No Conformity straps should be on your wish list.
Pros
  • Nylon reinforced
  • Unique look
  • Strap goes through the loop easily
Cons
  • Just two colors
  • Uneven padding
Materials:Nylon / neoprene / synthetic suede
Length:20in / 50.8cm
Padding:Yes
Colors:Black, army green

With extra nylon reinforcements around the stress points, you can be sure these straps from No Conformity – or NoCo – won’t give out on you. Reinforced edges mean they won’t fray any time soon either. If comfort is your priority, they have you covered there too, with suede wrist padding that feels soft against the skin.

3. Schiek 1000 LLS Leather Lifting Straps

Schiek 1000 LLS Leather Lifting Straps

Men’s Fitness verdict

We like these premium leather lifting straps and anre big fans of Schiek’s no-quibble replacement policy. They can get a bit slippery though.
Pros
  • Leather construction
  • Easy to clean
  • Great customer service
Cons
  • No wrist padding
  • Can get slick when sweaty
Material:Leather
Dimensions:21 x 1.5in / 53.3 x 3.8cm
Padding:None
Colors:Black, tan

Schiek’s 1000 LLS are one of just a few lifting straps made of real leather. It’s a touch of luxury that translates into dependable strength and comfort in the gym. It doesn’t make these straps particularly pricey, ether, but it does make them easy to clean. Dependable customer service means you’re guaranteed a replacement should a strap eventually break.

4. Gymreapers Lifting Straps

Product shot of Gymreaper lifting straps

Men’s Fitness verdict

They may be on the short side but these Gymreapers straps are both inexpensive and affordable – and impressively are backed up by a lifetime guarantee.
Pros
  • Lifetime replacement guarantee
  • Neoprene enhances comfort
  • Several bold color schemes
Cons
  • Minimal padding
  • Quite short at 18in / 45.7cm
Material:Cotton, neoprene
Length:18in / 45.7cm
Padding:Yes
Colors:9 colors available

Gymreaper’s padded lifting straps feel much more premium than their low price suggests. Neoprene padding means they can be used for any handle, regardless of knurling. There are nine different color schemes available, and although they are shorter than most, they can still be secured to any handle with ease. A lifetime guarantee is an added bonus.

5. JerkFit Death Grips

JerkFit Death Grips

Men’s Fitness verdict

The Death Grips are a different style of lifting strap – in fact they’re more like a glove. But they’re well suited to most types of lifting, particularly resistance machines.
Pros
  • Extra palm protection
  • Comes in three sizes
  • Easy to take off
Cons
  • Could do with an XL size
  • Fairly expensive
Materials:PVC, neoprene
Sizes:S, M, L
Padding:Yes
Color:Black

The JerkFit Death Grips are more of a lifting glove than a lifting strap, but they do the job just as well. They’re made from PVC with neoprene padding, giving you decent grip and comfort in equal measure. They come in three sizes, too, so are suitable for lifters with wrists as large as 8in / 20cm.

6. Rogue Ohio Straps

A pair of Rogue lifting straps

Men’s Fitness verdict

These are another good choice for new lifters: they’re affordable yet robust and comfy despite the lack of padding. Nylon and cotton versions are a bonus too.
Pros
  • Affordable
  • Reinforced cotton stitching
  • Soft on wrists, no padding needed
  • Nylon and cotton version
Cons
  • Only one color
  • Loop is small for the strap
Material:100% cotton
Dimensions:20 x 1.5in / 50.8 x 3.8cm
Padding:None
Color:Black

These straps are a redesign of Rogue Fitness’s Ohio straps and are an improvement on a classic. Made from 100% cotton, the straps are breathable enough to avoid getting slippery during sweaty sessions. Their webbed design is comfortable enough to negate the need for padding too. There’s also a nylon version if you prefer.

What are lifting straps made of?

Lifting straps are usually made of cotton, nylon or leather, and they’re applied on pulling movements such as the deadlift, bent-over rows, pull-ups and even shrugs.

Some lifters also used them for biceps curls – though we’d recommend saving them for your heaviest lifts. Most lifting straps are 12in-18in / 30.5cm-45.7cm long, and some have padding on the wrist portion for extra comfort.

Follow instructions on how to wash or care for the straps so they last you as long as possible. Many straps require hand washing, so you can clean them gently without damaging them.

DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell/Barbell Review: I Value Its Versatility https://mensfitness.co.uk/review/dmoose-2-in-1-adjustable-dumbbell-barbell/ Mon, 20 May 2024 10:04:25 +0000 https://mensfitness.co.uk/?p=22933 The robust DMoose 2-in-1 set gives you the versatility of both dumbbell and barbell training through a wide weight range

The robust DMoose 2-in-1 set gives you the versatility of both dumbbell and barbell training through a wide weight range, writes Roger Lockridge.

The DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell and Barbell set is designed to allow home gym owners with limited space to reap the benefits of both barbell and unilateral dumbbell training. The set converts from one of the best adjustable dumbbells to a top-notch barbell with only a few changes. It also offers a wide 4-90lb / 2-40kg weight range in 16 weights for you to train with.

This 2-in-1 design means you can train your entire body with the benefits that come with free weights without the hassle of storing barbells, plates and dumbbells.

Men’s Fitness verdict

You may be able to find less expensive options, but I doubt they’ll have the quality of the DMoose. With its 2-in-1 set, you’re getting a versatile training tool that will last with the proper care.
Pros
  • 4-90lb / 2-40kg weight range
  • One hand weight adjustment with handle
  • Non-slip grip
  • Space-saving design
  • Stand included
Cons
  • Longer dumbbell than traditional versions
  • Single dumbbell only

How we tested the best adjustable dumbbells

Our tester Roger Lockridge is an experienced product reviewer of all manner of fitness kit. He tested this 2-in-1 adjustable dumbbell and barbell at various weights and through a range of exercises at high rep ranges to see how it handles, assessing it in terms of grip, comfort, and weight range. He then provided an overall score, taking build quality, performance and price into consideration.

The DMoose’s intuitive weight changing mechanism

DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell

The dumbbell version of the DMoose 2-in-1 has a pretty large footprint, but serves as a quality resistance training tool. Despite looking unwieldy, I found I could perform various single-arm exercises with it with ease – including dumbbell rows, lateral raises and overhead triceps extensions. If you wanted to go all the way with single-sided training, you could add in split squats and chest presses too.

It may not be the best option for dumbbell biceps exercises such as concentration curls due to its length, but I hammered out hammer curls with no problem. I’d be careful not to drop it, though, as I’m not convinced how sturdy the plate selection mechanism is.

DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Barbell

By simply adding in the extra pieces to the dumbbell and storage plates, you can switch out the DMoose from a dumbbell to a barbell in no time, to add plenty of variety to your training. Now you’ve got the option of shoulder presses, barbell rows, bench presses and squats to add to you repertoire. Or if you have half an hour to spare, you could tackle our 30-minute dumbbell workout.

It’s useful for isolating your shoulders in a dumbbell workout with front raises or upright rows and worked well with biceps movements like the barbell curl with a wide or close grip. Though not the widest, the handles are quite comfortable to hold with a patterned silicon grip that gave me plenty of purchase.

DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell/Barbell performance

My DMoose 2-in-1 Adjustable Dumbbell and Barbell set showed up in one box with extra styrofoam for protection. The dumbbell came pre-assembled, and my package included the barbell pieces as well as instructions. It only took me a couple of minutes to set the whole thing up.

I already have a full home gym, but I can see where a beginner or someone with a smaller exercise room could benefit from having the DMoose 2-in-1. I started with a variety of the best dumbbell exercises to test it out, including single-arm rows and pullovers for back, overhead extensions and hammer curls for arms, and single-sided dumbbell press and lateral raises for shoulders. The dial lets you easily select your desired weight while it’s in the stand. So transitioning from one exercise to the next is quick and intuitive.

After testing the dumbbell out, I added the extra pieces to make the barbell. Again, changing weights was straightforward, allowing me to transition from rear delt rows to shoulder presses, front raises and barbell curls with ease.  In the hand the whole unit felt robust, with no real plate rattling to speak of.

Should you buy the DMoose 2-in-1 dumbbell/barbell set?

If you’re starting a home gym and want access to several weights without the space commitment, this would be a great place to start. Beginners would also benefit from having a barbell on hand for when they’re ready to progress. It may not be the same as having a pair of dumbbells, but unilateral training does have its benefits.

It does come with a hefty price tag, but build quality is good and there’s plenty of value in the set’s versatility. You may be able to find less expensive options, but I doubt they’ll have the quality of the DMoose. With its 2-in-1 set, you’re getting a versatile training tool that will last with the proper care.

This reinforced option is a good budget choice if you’re just starting to use lifting straps.

DMoose is working to become a one-stop shop for every fitness need – accessories included. One of its more popular products is its lifting straps. These straps are made of 100% cotton and can withstand the rigors of powerlifting accessory work, strongman training and intense bodybuilding workouts. They’re definitely among the best lifting straps – here’s how they performed on test.

Men’s Fitness verdict

DMoose gets all the basics right: its straps are nice and long, robust and excellent value. As long as you don’t have very small hands, these would make an ideal pair of straps for new lifters.
Pros
  • Good length at 2ft / 61cm
  • Several colours to choose from
  • Cross-stitched for reinforcement
  • Excellent value
Cons
  • May be too thick for lifter with small hands
  • Extra care needed when cleaning

How we test the best lifting straps

Our tester Roger Lockridge is an experienced product reviewer of all manner of fitness kit. He tested these lifting straps over at least a month at various weights and through a range of exercises at high rep ranges. He assessed each pair in terms of grip, comfort and durability. He then provided an overall score, taking availability, value and ranges of colours, sizes and other options into account.

DMoose Lifting Straps features

These could be among the longest straps available, coming in at 2ft (61cm) long. There are nine color schemes to choose from as well, including prints like the striking stars and stripes version I tested. The straps come with wrist padding, so they’ll be comfortable even when sweating through the hardest sessions. The company’s logo is stitched onto the strap, so it shows on the top of the wrist once it’s applied.

The cotton is breathable and will stay wrapped around whatever you’re holding. You can keep them looped or roll them up when you’re not using them. They will need to be hand cleaned to ensure they last for as long as possible – that’s particularly true of the printed versions.

The cross stitching makes them very durable and strong. I used these straps with barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells and specialty equipment in a non-climate-controlled weight room in the middle of summer, and they protected my hands very well. I also had no trouble maintaining control of the object I was lifting.

I tested these with as much as 495lb / 225kg in weights. If you have small hands, these straps may be too thick for you to work with, but most people will find these to be a great asset for their training needs. At $17, they’re an affordable accessory to improve your weight training, and DMoose plans to ship to the UK soon.
